In compounding, mechanical energy is intentionally introduced into the polymer melt to achieve dispersive and distributive mixing. Part of this energy is converted into heat through viscous dissipation.
Particularly at high throughputs and with highly viscous or highly filled compounds, this can result in elevated melt temperatures.
Once the required mixing has been completed, however, this additional thermal energy may no longer be beneficial for the downstream process.
The CMX can be installed downstream of the energy-intensive compounding stage.
It provides further melt homogenization while simultaneously allowing excess process heat to be removed in a controlled manner.
This enables the thermal condition of the melt to be tailored more precisely to the requirements of pelletizing, forming, or another downstream process stage.
Key Benefits
Put energy into the process where it is needed – and remove heat where it is no longer required
