Inexco - Hot-Melt Extrusion

Precise Temperature Control Within Narrow Processing Windows

Challenges in Hot Melt Extrusion

Hot melt extrusion applications can operate within relatively narrow thermal processing windows. The material, additives, and downstream process stages can each impose different requirements on the thermal condition of the melt.

In addition to maintaining the required average melt temperature, achieving a uniform temperature profile throughout the melt stream is important for stable and repeatable processing.

CMX Approach

The CMX combines intensive melt homogenization with active heat transfer.

The melt is continuously redistributed while its temperature is actively controlled through a temperature-controlled heat transfer fluid. This allows the thermal condition of the melt to be adjusted more precisely immediately upstream of the next process stage.

Key Benefits

  • Active thermal conditioning of the melt
  • More uniform melt temperature distribution
  • Additional degree of temperature control
  • Defined thermal conditions for downstream process stages
  • Compact combination of mixing and cooling
  • Application-specific configuration for the material and required processing window
